Climbing Over The Wall

Back

Guizhou (China), where my parents work, has many primitive traditions that have been preserved until now. Cave burial (use natural caves to bury the dead in the family) is a mysterious and unique funeral culture. In the course of research, this natural field of the inartificial cave made me empathize with the inanimate objects in it. I extracted the objects in the burial, which are symbols of local culture. They represent the common emotions among the indigenous people. This kind of ceremony looks very strange and horrible in the eyes of outsiders, but is actually full of profound emotions. I try to construct narrative scenes of cave burial through images and installation, and explore the relationship between specific objects and the audience.
